-DIMINISHED FIFTH RECORDS- The Music of Artisanship & War Diminished Fifth Records is bastard child of Josh Hogan. The label spawned almost two years ago when his own band, The Orchid’s Curse, were searching for a channel to release their debut EP ‘Goodbye is when the Casket Closes’. After much searching it became apparent that there was little, if any support for heavy music in the East Coast of Canada. Hogan decided that their not only should be, but that their needed to be a voice for heavy music in the region and in July 2006 Diminished Fifth Records was birthed. Since that time Diminished Fifth Records has become a prominent component in exposing the maritime scene, to itself, the rest of the country and the rest of the world. Having released 5 albums in less than two years, Diminished Fifth Records continues to not only work directly with their artists but also helps a variety of bands in the region with everything from online distribution, advice, networking and has created an online magazine called HORNS HIGH (http://hornshigh.ca) which has grown extensively over since it was launched in November 2007. Diminished Fifth Records is also a proud sponsor of the Maritime Tattoo Festival (http://maritimetattoofestival.com) which takes place each May in Halifax N.S. The label has also become quite vocal in exposing the ‘Heavy’ scene and petition the East Coast Music Association to make a category for ‘Heavy Music’ and although no such category yet exists the festival did have the 1st Heavy Music Spotlight at the 2008 ECMA’s in Fredericton N.B. the performance featured both, Iron Giant and The Orchid’s Curse. The label’s current releases have generated press and praise from various continents around the globe including such publications as: Alternative-Zine (Israel), Blabbermouth.net (USA), BW & BK Online (USA), Chronicles of Chaos (South Africa), Earshot Online (Canada), The Gauntlet (USA), Halifax Daily News (Canada), Harm Webzine (USA), Metal Storm (Estonia), The Metal Forge (Australia), Metal-Rules (Canada), The Moncton Times & Transcripts (Canada), Music Extreme (Argentina), and Unrestrained Magazine (Canada). With each passing day Diminished Fifth Records will continue to expand and grow as quickly as resources will allow and keep the horns raised high along the way. With the support of musicians and fans of heavy music the future looks bright for D5R and the East Coast Heavy Music scene. -Josh Hogan | Diminished Fifth Records WEB: http://diminishedfifthrecords.com MYSPACE: http://myspace.com/d5r |
